So how do you dice an avocado? I suppose exactly how you cut it or slice it depends upon how you plan to use the avocado. For me, the majority of the time I want cubes of avocado. I also typically use only half at a time then save the rest. Avocado is a rich fruit - 85% of it's calories come from fat - the healthy kind of fat though. It's also loaded with fiber, vitamin K, B vitamins, potassium and much more. Avocado is unique in what it adds to various dishes. So let's get on with how to cut, dice and store an avocado. This will be a pictorial so get ready for lots of pics. Here's what I do:
I posted on Facebook that the secret to a Healthy diet is a well stocked kitchen. That is so true. Another secret to successful healthy eating in today's super busy, fast paced, on the go lifestyle is to have food ready to eat.
I've found vinegar to be the best option. Typically the direction is to add a cup of vinegar to a sink full of water. I liked the idea but felt I should clean my sink before soaking my produce in it. I am not the best nor the worst of house keepers, however, almost 100% of our food is prepared at home. That means my sink is used quite a lot already and definitely not always sparkling clean. <sigh> But I found a solution.
I posted my favorite, easy pad thai recipe earlier this week. I noted that I prefer fresh ginger (vs. ground). It used to be that the closest I got to fresh was using the minced ginger you can buy in the small jars in the produce section of the grocery store. That was until I got this handy dandy (and pretty) kitchen tool. It was a gift from my Mom. She spotted it at a home show. You can be on the lookout for one or if you want one quickly, I'll include a link at the end of this post so you can order your own.
Back to the fresh ginger. Technically this is a garlic grater. It works well for garlic but is also great for ginger. I have another kitchen tool I prefer for garlic. (I'll include a link for that too at the end.)
