So what sort of luck do you have with all the cool looking Pinterest projects??
So far, some of the things I have tried that I found on Pinterest have turned out ok and some things have been a disaster. This birdfeeder project wasn't too bad - not really. As usual, things always sound pretty easy and simple - until you are actually doing them. Although in this case, I think it was my improvisation that was the biggest issue. I'm including the original pin below so you can link to the instructions there. The biggest change that I made that wasn't such a great choice was to use twigs for the perches instead of wooden spoons. I wanted to use things we already had on hand. Granted I had some wooden spoons but none that I wanted to give to the birds. I actually use my wooden spoons! Sooo.... we went looking for branches - twigs really. We found a few that looked like they would work pretty well.
We hung the bird feeders - near the bird house. We both had visions of birds coming by to eat and then maybe making a nest in the bird house. We would gaze at them from our window. Ahhh. The visions are always so nice. Unfortunately reality was a bit different. What we observed were squirrels enjoying the bird seed in our bird feeders. At least we got to watch the squirrels. They're fun too. :) And making the bird feeders was fun also. I'm not complaining. I actually think the design is great. There was a bit of user error with my modification and we didn't address the squirrel challenge. Try it yourself and let me know how it goes!
Here are the original "pins" that I referenced:

Here are the two pins that I referenced for this project. I never found instructions on the link for the feeder using the spoons as a perch. I like the look of the feeder though.
The other pin links to a site with detailed instructions.
